This Grandfather Caligula and his little protege Nero, prancing about Washington D.C., smashing open this institution and dragging that one to the ground, leave their stench where once was honorable democracy and earnest work. We are sickened with it, and despairing along with the thousands of people about to be jobless because Donald “Caligula” Trump does not like charity, international goodwill, veterans, or labor.
We also despair thinking of all the people across oceans that our institutions were aiding, and how much more at risk of illness, poverty, and more they are likely to be. We despair about our economy, and how the wreckage will spread and affect everyone who is not wealthy. We lament that our nation is now distrusted and disliked by most of our former allies in the world; we cannot travel with impunity. We are disgusted that our country is now ruled by an oligarch, an emperor and an unelected, unvetted handful of evil, unthinking, reckless-acting, horrid individuals led by one, the wealthiest of them all.
This Caligula has infected our entire nation.
