The Final Day-and-a-Half

“Pardons are a weird thing to put a criminal in charge of.”  — Jimmy Kimmel

Does anyone doubt that Donald J.Trump is still capable of announcing that he pardons himself, today? — This selfish, brutal man who cares nothing for rules or laws, civility or convention, or the need to keep a nation stable? He can scarcely avoid revealing his essence (not that he ever hid it, but his rage will show him more vividly) in what he does the last 2 days he holds office — and one part of that essence is to love his own safety above anyone else’s. He could easily decide he had better pardon himself and tie up the courts, the Congress, and the country thusly as we grapple with the legal processes to loosen that pardon from Himself.

“Tomorrow when the Pardons come tumbling out you will see how many criminals Trump has in his inner circle.— Patricia Arquette

Ah, yes. A good number of the 100 will certainly be friends and partners of his, who’ve protected and supported him, sometimes as they committed the crimes they’ve been arrested for.

We are waiting for his list of 100, and expect nothing much. Soon he will set loose another 100 people among whom we will have to fear some really villainous perpetrators, because that’s the sort of people he obviously wants to set loose on the public. The strongest possibilities (and only ones) that journalists are betting on to be amongst them are Lil Wayne, and a Florida doctor.

Previously, we hoped that some of the 13 people from Death Row he just executed would be granted clemency, but no. He needed to kill a woman with extreme psychological problems, who was delusional even at the time she went to her death. He needed to kill a man who’d been sentenced because his buddies murdered someone during a robbery, although he hadn’t done it himself and didn’t know it would happen. He needed to kill others, and did.

And now he may pardon some more murderers in addition to the ones he’s already set free.  He can’t compensate us sufficiently for what he’s already done — There is NO public-spirited, compassionate clemency or pardon he can grant now that will erase the rottenness he’s enacted. What a White House he’s made, what a hell: This royal filth, this ensceptered corruption, on this earth of egotism, this seat of the Gorgon; … this other Void, this bulwark built by Hastur for himself against the public and the hand of justice, This unhappy breed of men… this White House.

They tell me you are wicked and I believe them, for I have seen you paint women with dirt you yourself deserve. And they tell me you are crooked, and I answer: Yes, it is true I have seen your gunmen kill and go free to kill again. They tell me you are brutal and my reply is: On the faces of immigrants I have seen the marks of wanton abuse.

We’re still waiting on the list.
